In 1990, Peter Goldsmith, music teacher at Frome college, formed the band giving local musicians the opportunity to play and learn about big band music. Since then the band has gone from strength to strength as new members have joined. The band’s catalogue has grown with performance standards improving year on year. It is an incredibly exciting time for the band with some challenging new repertoire exploring charts from arrangements of the standards to modern big band works.
FSB big band has performed concerts across the South West to many warm welcomes from audiences. One of the most unique venues being the castle at Nunney Street Fayre, it is not often you look across a moat to the audience! We have performed at many private functions including birthday parties, anniversaries and weddings.
FSB big band is ready to give you everything a big band should give you! We have some sassy swing, beautiful ballads, voluptuous vocals and lively latin. This 17-strong band is bringing to life many of the great jazz standards. Whether your thing is dancing to the Duke, bopping to Basie or grooving to Glenn Miller then FSB has something that you will enjoy!
Vocalist Alec James will transport you to the glamour of the past and share with you some of those tunes from the great American songbook. We can go on an adventure with “Bad, Bad Leroy Brown”, who may ask you to “Come Fly with Me” or take a trip down the “Lazy River” and introduce you to “Mack the Knife” as well as many more!
Please get in touch through our contacts page for more information about booking the band.
